• Do you help people with eating disorders?

Eating disorders can be difficult to detect and treat. Treatment is intense, and similar to other chronic physical and mental health conditions, usually requires a long-term commitment. Understanding how to support an individual with an eating disorder is a specialized skill. Our team does offer assessment and treatment for Binge Eating Disorder and mild to moderately severe Bulimia Nervosa to individuals between the ages of 18-65 who do not suffer from cognitive impairment or other uncontrolled psychiatric conditions. Nutrition and psychological counselling will be strongly recommended for individuals with eating disorders.

    • Are there any medications available to help with weight management?

Yes, there are medications approved by Health Canada that can be used in combination with healthy behaviours to help support people who are trying to manage their weight and improve their health. Each person responds to these medications differently. Our doctors are well-informed about the safety and effectiveness of these medications, and they will speak with you about whether this is an appropriate option for you.

    • What can you tell me about your approach?

Many commercial diets promote restrictions that are just too hard to maintain in the long run. This results in a discouraging pattern of weight loss and weight regain, which in turn can have a negative impact on your physical and emotional health. Our team of team of experts offers honest, science-based and personalized advice in addressing the medical, nutritional, fitness and emotional aspects of weight control. We tailor the plan to you and your life circumstances.

    • Is any portion of your services covered by Alberta Healthcare?

Yes, for Alberta residents with valid Alberta Healthcare insurance, we do offer a free support for a period of time. We also offer additional services that are often covered by most extended healthcare insurance plans or health spending accounts.

    • I am not currently overweight. Can I still benefit from your services?

Absolutely. We want to help Albertans precent overweight and obesity through making positive health choices. Anyone looking to improve their health behaviours is welcome to contact us and will benefit from our team of experts.

    • Does anyone at CWMC® perform weight loss surgery?

Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, is an important weight management tool for certain people who have a higher health risk. While we do not currently offer the surgery itself, our experts are able to support individuals who are considering bariatric surgery or who have had it in the past. If you are ONLY interested in bariatric surgery, please speak with your physician for a referral to your regional bariatric surgery program
