It is week 2 in Nutrition Month and the focus is on building quality into your diet. When it comes to food choices, quality counts! When we include foods that are nutrient-rich (those that provide a lot of vitamins, minerals, fibre, and micronutrients for the calorie value), we feel our best. If you find yourself craving unhealthy food, one of the best places to start is to look at the quality of your diet. We are what we eat and if you pay attention, we also crave what we eat. The cleaner (healthier) you eat, the more you will crave these foods.

There are lots of simple ways to incorporate healthy, clean foods into your daily routine. Let's start with a breakfast example! A nourishing breakfast should include nutrient dense fruits like berries, a lean protein like Greek 0-1% MF yogurt, and a healthy fat such as ground flaxseed. This trio can easily be made into a smoothie or yogurt parfait. Boost it further by adding a handful of baby spinach if taking the smoothie route.

If you like some crunch in the morning, try a whole-grain wrap (small one) with a banana, 1 Tbsp. natural peanut butter, and 1 Tbsp. homemade trail mix. You can try mine, which is equal parts of each of the following: raisins, dried cranberries, English walnut halves, dry-roasted almonds, and pumpkin seeds. I make this is in the bulk section of the grocery store.

If you have a bit more time, try our Feta Red Pepper and Avocado Frittata recipe!
